Orange Hill Beach Inn

$, New Providence Island

User Rating: **** 4.2

Fodor's Review:

If you prefer down-home coziness over slick glamour, then this charming inn -- on the site of a former orange plantation perched on a hilltop overlooking the ocean -- is the place to stay. Guests are treated like family, and the homey feel extends to the comfortably eclectic living room and daytime honor bar. Danny and Judy Lowe -- he's Bahamian, she's Irish -- have owned the inn for more than 20 years. Orange Hill has a reputation as an inexpensive alternative for honeymooners and scuba divers. It's a half-hour drive from town, 15 minutes from the casino, and 300 feet from a pleasant roadside beach. Rooms and apartments vary considerably in size. Two cottages, including a hexagonal cabin with a pitch-pine ceiling and a sweeping view of the ocean, were added in 2005.

comfortable and convenient

My wife and I needed a one-night stay on New Providence Island and did not want to be in Nassau. We found this inn on a quick search and chose it more for its location (Cable Beach - a short cab ride from the airport) and its price. The staff was excellent, the pool refreshing. the room comfortable but nothing special, the food and honor bar commendable. The inn apparently has a lot of returning customers, and if I happen to need to spend another night on the island, I would spend it here.
