Batik fabric called Androsia is made in Andros Town, a small community in central Andros on the south side of Fresh Creek. This brilliantly colored fabric is designed and dyed at the Androsia Batik Works Factory, a 3-mi drive from Andros Town airport. You can visit the factory and see how the material is made, plus take lessons in the art of batik. It's open weekdays 8-4 and Saturday 9-5. Batik fabric is turned into wall hangings and clothing for men and women, which are sold throughout the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Adjacent to the factory is the Androsia Outlet Store (www.androsia.com), where you can buy original fabrics, clothing, Bahamian carvings and straw baskets, maps, CDs, and books. It's open 9-5 every day except Sunday.
