Running through large pine forests that are still home to wild horses and boars, the wide, paved Sherben A. Boothe Highway leads north from Marsh Harbour for 20 mi to Treasure Cay, which is technically not an island but a large peninsula connected to Great Abaco by a narrow spit of land. Here you'll find a small community of mostly winter residents, a 3,000-acre farm that grows winter vegetables and fruit for export, and a spectacular 3 1/2-mi-long beach, often called the best in the Abacos.

While Treasure Cay is a large-scale real-estate development project, it's also a wonderful small community where expatriate residents share the laid-back, sun-and-sea atmosphere with longtime locals. The development's centerpiece is the Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina, with its Dick Wilson-designed golf course and a 150-slip marina that has boat rentals, a dive shop, pool, restaurant, and lively bar. Treasure Cay's central location makes it a great base for exploring and enjoying the Abacos. Historic Elbow Cay, Man-O-War Cay, and Green Turtle Cay are all easily accessible by boat, and car rentals are available to travel north to Fox Town or south to Sandy Point.

Treasure Cay's commercial center consists of two rows of shops near the resort as well as a post office, Laundromat, ice-cream parlor, a couple of well-stocked grocery stores, and the BaTelCo. You'll also find car-, scooter-, and bicycle-rental offices here.
