Androsia Batik Works Factory

Androsia Batik Works Factory Review

Brilliantly colored batik fabric called Androsia is designed and dyed at the Androsia Batik Works Factory, a 3-mi drive from Andros Town airport. The Small Hope Bay Lodge family started the enterprise in 1973 to provide employment for local women. Today it has been declared the official fabric of the Bahamas. You can visit the factory and see how the material is made, plus take lessons in the art of batik ($25, which includes the piece of fabric you decorate). Batik fabric is turned into wall hangings and clothing for men and women, which are sold throughout the Bahamas and the Caribbean, and are quite popular with the locals. You can stock up at the outlet next door.
