Fodor's Review:
Long considered an essential stop by serious food lovers, Chez Mathilde continues to provide modern French cuisine in the elegant surroundings of a 19th-century building. The formal dining area features burnished walls, antique lamps, and crisp white linens laid over magenta and cobalt silk skirtings. You'll almost expect Edith Piaf to walk in and burst into song. The garden room at the back provides a more relaxed, belle epoque feel, with high ceilings, potted palms, and wicker chairs. An imaginative spirit pervades the menu in offerings like duck breast and crusted ostrich breast served with asparagus and truffled potatoes. Presentation is top-notch, and you'll appreciate soothing touches like a palate-cleansing mango sherbet served between courses. Aproned waiters provide attentive but understated service. Leave room for the outstanding desserts, such as the heady Grand Marnier soufflé, and be sure your credit cards have room to spare. The restaurant -- run by descendants of the home's last inhabitant -- is a VIP member of the AGA.

Pretty place, appetizer and crepes Suzette were wonderful. Toughest piece of Chateaubriand I've ever eaten. Disappointing, we canceled our 2nd reservation.
