User Rating: **** 3.9

Fodor's Review:

Pascal and Florence Milliat built this hilltop charmer with their own hands, and it begs comparison with any bistro in the French West Indies. The flagstone terrace overlooks a tinkling fountain and lighted pool; the tasteful, elevated dining room is furnished in dark rattan, with ceramics, local paintings, cast-iron gas lamps, and copper pots. Pascal's classic Lyonnaise cuisine exhibits his remarkably deft hand with subtle, silken sauces. Try the gossamer chicken-liver mousse perfumed with thyme sauce, practically translucent and transcendent scallops with leeks, or the sublime steamed grouper in beurre blanc. Carnivores will relish the lightly charred, melting fillet in Madeira sauce. Even the salads -- perfect for lunch on a steamy day -- are exquisite. Finish with a heavenly flourless chocolate cake with strawberry coulis or a definitive tarte tatin and you've just defined joie de vivre. Four guest rooms ($225, including breakfast and a 10% discount on other meals) with whirlpool baths have splendid sea views.

Paradise Found

Posted by mountainchicken from Washington, DC on 11/29/06

During a 6 hour layover in Antigua, we happened upon Chez Pascal and what a find!! The beautiful view, the chameleons, the birds, the charm of Florence and Pascal, and the food made it one of the most pleasurable dining experiences we've had. Pascal treated us to a sample of the escargot, and it was to die for. We then had the Lobster Bisque and the seafood pastry for starters - both excellent. Both the sole and the shrimp in saffron sauce were beautifully presented - outdone only by the taste. We also enjoyed a very nice chablis. Sorbet for dessert was a perfect finish for lunch, although the richer offerings on the dessert menu sounded delicious as well. Capped off with espresso and capuccino, it was simply a beautiful experience. After two and a half hours enjoying our very French lunch, we reluctantly left - Pascal escorted me out to the car with an umbrella. We'll be back.

Worst Experience We Have Ever Had In A Restaurant

Posted by Jennifer from Denver, CO on 5/23/06

After reading many positive reviews of Chez Pascal, we left our all-inclusive resort to visit this highly acclaimed restaurant. Big Mistake!!! Never in our lives have we ever been treated so poorly at ANY restaurant! Our waitress misinformed us as to the sauces that were to accompany each of our entrees. When we asked the owner Florence, to bring us butter for my lobster, all $&*(@ broke loose. We told her that we had some problems with our service, and rather than her asking what she could do to fix the situation, she started screaming at us in the restaurant and stormed off to the kitchen, where she and the cook Pascal started yelling and cursing us. He came to our table and began yelling at us. We tried to explain that we simply wished for them to "make things right", he blatantly told us he could care less that we were unhappy. He yelled that he is on Fodor's list of recommended restaurants and he could care less if we weren't happy. He continued to bash the food at the resort where we were staying -Galley Bay (where, by the way, our food and service were impeccable!) - and told us maybe we should have just stayed there to eat. We were so upset with the entire situation that we could not even eat our meals (nor did we wish to stay there any longer), so we asked for our bill. Any restaurant of this "caliber" in the US would have comped the meals. Chez Pascal billed us for the entire meal. And to add insult to injury - because Antigua charges a mandatory 10% service fee - we were forced to tip them for this unbelievable service. What could have been a very nice meal, with good food, turned out to be a disaster due to the attitude of the owners of this restaurant. It was a toss up when we selected this restaurant over our other choice - Le Bistro but we chose this one due to the closer proximity to our resort. By all means - stay away from this restaurant unless you enjoy being yelled at and cursed in public and then have to tip to be treated in this manner.
