$$-$$$$, Caribbean, St. John's
Fodor's Review:
george. This downtown eatery is a loving evocation of the building owner's original Georgian family home. The contemporary colonial design is stunning: beamed ceilings, teal-and-aqua walls, high-back hardwood chairs, and jalousie shutters that close off to form a second-floor gallery overlooking the busy street scene. The menu updates West Indian classics, from jerk burgers to slow-roasted spare ribs with a caramelized passion fruit-pineapple glaze to pepper-seared tuna marinated in sesame-ginger oil. The congenial new British managers plan to add children's and vegetarian menus. If you avoid the priciest items (rack of lamb, lobster) you can dine affordably; indulge in the bartenders' extensive "Naughty List" of cocktails.
