Banks and Exchange Services in Antigua and Barbuda

Banks and Exchange Services

More Travel Tips »

American dollars are readily accepted, although you can usually receive change in EC dollars, so it's really your call as to whether or not you exchange any currency. It's certainly not necessary if you are staying in an all-inclusive resort. The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$), which is tied to the U.S. dollar and fluctuates only slightly. US$1 is worth approximately EC$2.70; you get a slightly better rate if you exchange money at a bank than at your hotel. Several island banks have ATMs.

Most hotels, restaurants, and duty-free shops take major credit cards; all accept traveler's checks. ATMs (dispensing EC$) are available at the island's banks and at the airport.
