Fodor's Review

This affordable beachfront oasis nestled in a tranquil corner of Dickenson Bay delights with intimacy and warmth, and knowledgeable Aussie owner Tony Johnson gladly acts as a de facto tourist board. Cleverly designed suites have a small bedroom, Pullman-style kitchen with microwave, living area, and patio or balcony. Atmospheric accents like island CDs, painted gourds, antique maps, and driftwood wall hangings are counterpointed by modern touches (flat-screen TVs and raised glass-and-chrome basins). Still, many guests savor the natural sound system of soothing surf with harmonizing crickets, bananaquits, and tree frogs in Tony's extravagant, enchanted garden. Rooms 9 and 10 overlook the sea, and ground-floor units represent fine buys for families—Number 3 virtually extends into that lushly landscaped pool area.
