We can't include every property deserving mention without creating an encyclopedia. Our favorites receive full reviews, but you might consider the following accommodations, many of which are popular with tour operators.
Antigua Yacht Club Marina & Resort (Falmouth Harbour. 268/562-3030. www.aycmarina.com) is a handsome collection of 19 hotel rooms and 24 studio and 1-bedroom condos (for rent when owners are off-island), climbing a hill with stunning marina views. Accommodations are stylish if spare, with island crafts and the occasional high-tech amenity; the adjacent marina is a center of nautical hubbub with several restaurants, pubs, and shops.
Coconut Beach Club (Yepton Beach. 268/462-3239 or 800/361-4621. www.coconutbeachclub.com) The beach overlooking the ruins of Ft. James is lovely, the food in the restaurants creative; all units feature smashing sea views, and the price is right—for now.
Hermitage Bay (Hermitage Bay. 268/562-5500. www.hermitagebay.com) is a deluxe enclave of 30 beachfront and hillside cottages that opened in 2006 on a secluded, hard-to-reach but pretty stretch of sand. Affecting a look and ambience that borrow from both Carlisle Bay and Curtain Bluff, the minimalist-chic lodgings include a garden shower and private plunge pool.
Rex Halcyon Cove Beach Resort (Dickenson Bay. 268/462-9256 or 800/255-5859. www.rexresorts.com) is a large, impersonal but admirably outfitted resort (from dive shop to car rental) on one of Antigua's top beaches. Buildings are a bit institutional-looking and watch out for stampeding tour groups; however, you can usually find good package deals here.
