Golf in Antigua and Barbuda

Though Antigua hardly qualifies as a duffer's delight, its two 18-hole courses offer varied layouts.

Cedar Valley Golf Club. Northeast of St. John's, Cedar Valley Golf Club has a driving range and par-70, 6,157-yard, 18-hole course. The not terribly well-maintained terrain offers some challenges with tight hilly fairways and numerous doglegs (Hole 7 is a perfect example). The 5th hole has exceptional ocean vistas from the top of the tee, and the par-5 9th offers the trickiest design with steep slopes and swales. Jolly Harbour Golf Course. Jolly Harbour Golf Course is a par-71, 6,001-yard (officially, but it's really 5,587 yards from the back tees), 18-hole course designed by Karl Litten. The flat Florida-style layout is lushly tropical, with seven lakes adding to the challenge. The 15th is the signature hole, with a sharp dogleg and long carry over two hazards. Unfortunately, fairways are often dry and patchy, drainage is poor, and the pro shop and "19th hole" are barely adequate. Greens fees are $57.50 ($97.75 including motorized cart) or $34.50/$23 for 9 holes. Visitors can participate in regular tournaments and "meet-and-greet" events.
