Straw Hat
Straw Hat Review
Since this Anguilla favorite moved to the beautiful sands of Meads Bay (at the Frangipani) its many fans now enjoy lunch and dinner seven days a week on its tropical beachfront patio. Charming owners Peter and Anne Parles, the sophisticated and original food, and friendly service are the main reasons the restaurant has been in business since the late 1990s. The menu features appealing small plates like lobster spring rolls and clever "chips n'fish," which diners can share; or mix and match for the perfect meal. The curried goat here sets the bar for the island. And "fish of the day" truly means fish caught that day.

On a recent stay in Anguilla, I was able to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at Straw Hat. Best choice I ever made. Food was exquisite, no better view anywhere, especially when the big yachts were there. Service was very attentive. Chef really knows his sauces. Try it, I don't think you will be disappointed at all!

to be offered more than just a seat at the bar, given the fact that the dining room was only about half full.Perhaps it was a mistake to not have a reservation. We looked at the menu outside and really were not drawn by that. What drew us in was the restaurant's reputation, and the beautiful location. We did not feel welcome and will not return.

We just returned from a fabulous vacation in Anguilla. Someone suggested that we try Straw Hat Restaurant.
The owners are arrogant. That was picked up immediately by all four of us.
The "favorite" appitizers were frozen eggrolls.
The "fresh caught today", Grouper, if it was so, was ruined by overcooking. My husband's scallops were so overly seasoned that he could taste the scallops.
None of us ordered dessert or coffee.
Having said that, I remember that in every restaurant, we would be offered either bottled water or tap. At Straw Hat, the owner bosted, "Oh you don't want to drink our water." Why . Was it safe to drink the tap water all over the island but not at his restaurant, or is that just one more way to pad the bill, which was already 150.00 per couple.
The owner did not even ask how our dinner was when we left. Perhaps he knew better.
Having said that, we learned when we got back to our hotel that they recently lost their chef. With bosses like that, we were not surprised. -

This was definitely my favorite place in Anguilla. The setting is perfect and the meal was certainly one of the best I've had in years.
Don't miss it!!!
