Youthful, active couples from around the globe happily fill this casual, three-story, white-stucco building hidden in a palm grove just off the beach, opting for location and price over luxury. Units are neat and simply furnished, with tile floors and pastel matelassé (heavy cotton) bedspreads; ocean views are best from the top floor. On the ground floor are four apartment suites that are good for families. People return year after year, thanks to the management's dedicated hospitality. The creative restaurant, Zara's, is a popular draw, as is the less expensive Gwen's Reggae Grill, a boisterous and colorful beachside joint with a relaxed, frat-party atmosphere. Look into special summer packages. Pros: front row for all Shoal Bay's action; young crowd; good restaurant. Cons: location requires a car; rooms are clean, but not at all fancy; beach and pool lounges are aging poorly.
