This horseshoe of bougainvillea-draped Mediterranean-style buildings on beautiful Meads Bay has the look of an upscale Sun Belt condo. Although only two units -- No. 1 and No. 6 -- stand at the water's edge, all have balconies or patios with ocean views. Bright, white, one- and two-bedroom apartments are individually owned and thus reflect their owners' tastes, but most are well-appointed, fully equipped, and carefully maintained. The cordial staff, supreme beachfront location, and several fine restaurants within walking distance make this a popular spot. Look for aggressive promotions on the Web site. Portable air-conditioning units are available for a fee.

Excellent Value

We stayed at Carimar the last two nights of our trip and couldn't have been happier with what we found. The grounds are lovely and the staff really went out of their way to make sure you felt at home. The property is right on the beach at Meads Bay and considering you pay 3 times as much to stay next door at Malliouhana we found this an excellent value. Plan to visit them again next time I'm in Anguilla.
