European refinement in a tranquil beach setting, attentive service, stellar dining, and a plethora of activities keep the mostly mogul clientele returning year after year, despite nearly universal agreement that a general refurbishment is overdue. An elegant air surrounds the resort's white arches and soaring columns, accented by tile stairways that wrap dramatically around a rocky bluff. With high ceilings, large balconies, marble baths, and sumptuous—if somewhat dated—decor, rooms are so comfortable you might never want to leave. Some suites even have private hot tubs; one has a private swimming pool. Extensive facilities allow you to be as active—or sedentary—as you wish: spend your days snorkeling, waterskiing, or fishing, or just relax at the spa or take a leisurely stroll along mile-long Meads Bay. Those with young ones need not be deterred by the opulence here—Malliouhana is family-friendly. Kids enjoy a beachside pirate-ship playground, playroom, and separate dining facilities. Summertime packages offer two rooms for the price of one. Note the 10% service charge and an additional $20/day electricity surcharge. Pros: Huge rooms, elite international clientele, stellar dining on a beautiful terrace over the sea. Cons: The beach drops off at the edge, and the water can be rough, guests need to bring lots of cash, shabby outdoor furniture.

We were at Malliouhana in Nov-08. Facilities are very tired and management is squeezing every dollar from the property. Staff is unfriendly and any problems will not be solved. The most common answer “That’s how things are done in Anguilla.”
Our party had both Honeymoon Suite and Pool Suite for 5 days. Upon our arrival there was no greeting package – No Champagne/flowers/fruit plate. Honeymoon Suite was dirty, chandeliers broken, no coffee maker, TV or audio. In Pool Suite there was a broken audio system that could not be fixed and a “fake jacuzzi.” Steps leading to the beach were dirty and covered with leaves. That was cleaned only after multiple requests. Beach activities: volleyball – no net, waterskiing – the captain was either taking a long lunch break or it was time for him to leave. The hotel most likely will recommends you an outside restaurant. Their favorite is Mango’s. It’s a very expensive diner type of food. If you have any problems with the bill at Mango’s Malliouhana will make sure they help Mango’s boys to get to your room at the hotel to shake money from you. If that happens to you do not bother asking the staff for contact numbers of US Consulate as they simply will say NO with a smile. Of course, at the check out erroneous charges on your bill are to be expected.
The only bright spot of our experience at Malliouhana was Michael Rostang Restaurant. The food was excellent, service was fast and flawless. Staff was very friendly and helpful. However, we understand the restaurant is managed separately from the hotel.
We fell in love with Anguilla after visiting the island several times and staying at Cap Juluca. Natural beauty, top class service and friendly people all made us want to come back. After our experience at Malliouhana we not only will not be back to Malliouhana, but also to Anguilla any time soon. This is very unfortunate as the location is naturally beautiful. If you really like to visit Anguilla and enjoy the natural beauty and top service then stay at Cap Juluca for true luxury.
