Fodor's Expert Review Norfolk Blue Restaurant

$$ Norfolk Island Modern Australian

This country inn and restaurant specializes in locally bred beef known as Norfolk Blue. The unique cattle breed, not found anywhere else in the world, has evolved from the stock first brought to the island by the British in 1788. They are raised on the restaurant's adjoining 100-acre farm by owner Robyn Menghetti. Today Norfolk Blue Restaurant is one of the island's best places to eat, serving melt-in-your-mouth beef that can be sampled in several starters, such as the beef strips in creamy pepper sauce on rice, and warm Asian-style beef salad. Beef-lovers have many main-course choices—braised beef medallions slow-cooked and served with dumplings, and aged prime cuts served with a choice of sauces are among the options. There's a pasta of the day and local fish for non-beef lovers, as well as delicious desserts such as Bounty chocolate flan, a tart with almonds, rum, and chocolate-fudge sauce. You can take a daily farm tour and also feed Mr. Bull, the owners' pride of the herd.
