The Crab Shack

Updated 03/05/2014

Fodor's Review

Right on the waterfront, Crab Shack is an American-style diner with a Kiwi twist. Crab-pots and ropes hang from the ceiling. The walls are bedecked in old-world maps and colorful recycled timber. A wide-planked floor, glazed brick walls behind the bar, and bottle-globe lighting complete the nautical theme. Try the Crab Shack platter: shrimp, mac 'un' cheese, battered soft shell crab, shrimp salad, crab and corn dip, calamari, and grilled garlic Tiger prawns. Or how about

the King? That's 800 grams (nearly 2 pounds) of Red King crab with garlic butter. Youngsters will love the Big Jed burger with chicken, bacon, smoked provolone, guacamole, lettuce, and BBQ sauce.
