Wine pairings are the way to go at Seasons, the restaurant at this boutique winery. For instance, you could try fresh fish of the day poached in buttered wine, served with wilted bok choy and ginger kumara (native sweet potato) mash, followed by chocolate-dipped strawberries, alongside a Classic Riesling. The room itself, with its vaulted ceiling, brick fireplace, and expansive view of the Tararuas, is a delight. You can take a winery tour, which includes a wine tasting, for $5.

We visited the Solstone Vineyard and Restaurant last night on the strength of its inclusion in the Entertainment Book, and have two comments: (1) They refused to accept the voucher, despite having seen us with the book when we arrived in the restuarant and when we were sat ordering our meal. (2) The standard of food was poor. Not inedible, but certainly not 'fine dining', and certainly not worth the prices charged.RATING: 1.2
