Brancott Estate Heritage Centre

Brancott Estate Heritage Centre Review

In September 2011 Brancott Estate moved to their stunning new cellar door that overlooks the vineyard where it all started—where Marlborough's original sauvignon blanc vines were planted. The view, across the heart of Marlborough's Wairau Valley vineyards, is also stunning. Several tasting options are available along with arguably one of Marlborough's finest winery restaurants, open for lunch (book ahead in summer). You could build your appetite by taking a guided cycle tour through the vineyard (5.5 km [3.4 miles]), where you see and possibly taste the grapes of the different sauvignons (book ahead). Reflecting their heritage, sauvignon blanc is the star wine here, but their pinot noir also has great merit. Private winemaker lunches and dinners are also available for groups, by prior arrangement. You can also learn about the native New Zealand Falcon here, Brancott is a major supporter of preservation efforts of this rare native species (which actually helps vineyards by keeping the mice at bay!). The annual Marlborough Wine and Food Festival, one of New Zealand's original wine festivals, is held each summer at Brancott.
