Wakefield Quay

Wakefield Quay Review

The waterfront area along the quay has been developing steadily for the past few years, and now has several cafés, along with a promenade that incorporates a historic stone seawall built by 19th-century prisoners. A statue commemorates the arrival of the early European pioneers, and Sunderland Quay houses a memorial to local fishermen lost at sea (Nelson is one of New Zealand's major fishing ports). It's also the site of the annual Blessing of the Fleet in July.
