Upper South Island and the West Coast Restaurants

Raupo Review

This impressive building right on the riverfront has been opened by top local restaurateurs Marcel and Helen Rood. An imposing structure of glass, wood, and river stone, it sits beautifully on a small bend in the Taylor River, and is named for the nearby bulrushes, or raupo, along the river. You can sit on the terrace in summer, cosy up to the fireplace in winter, or book a private dining room at any time of year. Their meals are light and healthy, with a selection of local favorites like mussels, beef, caesar salad, or lamb. Both a la carte and set menus for lunch and dinner are available, plus a five course "surprise" degustation (by prior arrangement). Raupo is also a favored morning and afternoon coffee, tea, and cake stop. They offer a considerably indulgent selection of high-tea morsels and muffins.
