Birds Ferry Lodge Review

Named for the old river ferry that crossed the nearby Totara River during the gold rush, this purpose-built lodge and self-contained cottage bring the place to life once more. There are two rooms in the main lodge, each with commanding views across the surrounding bush lands and the nearby Paparoa National Park. A large guest lounge and dining area provides plenty of space to relax in the evening. The Ferryman's Cottage (sleeps four, $$$$) is a really private spot and has all the conveniences of home, a cozy wood fire, and an outside bath. Listen to the roar of distant surf at night; and if you're really lucky you may hear kiwi calling in the bush nearby.
