Upper South Island and the West Coast Restaurants

Hopgoods

Hopgoods Review

Locally recognized chef Kevin Hopgood dishes up expertly prepared fresh food at this city restaurant. In the café strip at the top of Trafalgar Street, you'll have to book ahead here because it's consistently the best spot around. Try the beef, always cooked to perfection with a hint of red, or the fresh fish, battered and served with a crisp green salad. The crispy duck is popular, too. The food is not overdressed contemporary cuisine but instead contains simply cooked fresh, natural (often organic) ingredients, enhanced with tasty dressings and jus. Kevin locally sources lots of goodies like the cheese, oil and saffron, and the drinks menu is unashamedly local. Service is attentive and discreet.
