Woollaston Estate

Woollaston Estate Review

The state-of-the-art, multilevel gravity-fed winery and gallery of Woollaston Estate sits on a quiet hillside in Mahana. In an area once known solely for apple production, the wines now being created from this district are maturing superbly. The gallery is beside the cellar door tasting area, and shows internationally acclaimed artists. The work of owner Phillip Woollaston's father, Toss, one of the country's best-known artists, is available to view on request. Woollaston produces pinot noir rosé (from 100% pinot noir grapes), sauvignon blanc, riesling, and pinot gris, and their pinot noir has received special accolades. The extensive views over the mountains and Tasman Bay from the lawn suggest bringing a picnic, and tasting platters are available as well. It's also a venue for live music (including jazz), literature, and other cultural events on the Nelson festival circuit.
