Mussel Inn Review
For a quintessential slice of Golden Bay life, music, and craft beer swing by the Mussel Inn. Locals come for the live music (usually several evenings a week and more in summer, starting around 8:30 pm), a bowl of mussel chowder, some fresh, steamed mussels, or local Anatoki salmon, washed down with some house-brewed beer. A favorite is the famous Captain Cooker manuka beer—originally made from the native manuka tree by Captain Cook in the 1700s to combat scurvy on his ships. The plentiful options other than seafood are simple, tasty and wholesome good. They serve all-day snacks then a dinner menu. The design is wool-shed chic, self-described as "Kiwi wool-shed meets Aussie farmhouse," which seems an apt description. Rough sawn timbers, hand-made furniture, an outdoor fire pit, and leafy trees complete the rustic look. All their beers and ciders are made on-site.
