¢-$$$$, Seafood, Kekerengu
Fodor's Review:
Sue and Richard Macfarlane run a visually stimulating one-stop store and café right by the sea on SH1 heading south toward Kaikoura. The space uses natural wood and displays interesting potted plants, barrels, and an open fireplace. On this dramatic perch at the edge of the Pacific, the waves almost reach the open deck. You can choose lunch from either the cabinet or a blackboard menu; try the fresh seafood or chicken and avocado salad with a glass of local wine. Dinner bookings are essential in summer; in winter, The Store closes at 7 PM, with the last order taken around 6:30.
