Herzog

Herzog, Blenheim

Herzog Review

Marlborough's finest dining experience is tucked away along a short side road leading down to the Wairau River. Superb three- and five-course dinner menus pair Herzog wines with innovative dishes; the set and à la carte menus might include silky yellowfin tuna carpaccio, seared Nelson scallops with asparagus-ricotta ravioli, or a whole red snapper in a salt crust. The legendary degustation dinners (NZ$191 per person, including wines) start from 6:30 and are booked well in advance, but you can often chance a dinner booking a day or so ahead of your visit. In addition to the wine pairings, you can study the wine list of 500 vintages. Retire to the lounge after dinner for a coffee or a digestif. They also run a bistro menu from 12 to 3 (around NZ$24) then a Winemaker's Platter until 5pm. Herzog runs very popular cooking classes from October to May, Winemaker's Table lunches, and also has a boutique vineyard cottage accommodation (from NZ$380 per night).
