Fodor's Review:

This luxurious modern lodge, high on a hill overlooking the coast, has a special connection to its setting; its creek is part of an ancient Maori greenstone trail. The Sunset Room has a sunset color scheme and gazes west to the coast, and the Tasman Room (named for its view of the Tasman Sea) borrows the hues of an opalescent paua shell. Most of the rooms have an ocean view; some have private balconies. You can arrange to go fishing or clay bird shooting, or play pétanque (boccie) before sitting by the outdoor fire in the courtyard for evening drinks. There are beach walks nearby and trout fishing in the Taramakau River (license required). Pros: Soothing hot tub in the garden, social lounge area and outdoor courtyard, rooms fitted out with taste. Con: Up a short winding gravel road.
