Stores / Malls, Greymouth
Fodor's Review:
If your crafts craving hasn't yet been sated, drive a few miles south of Greymouth to Kumara's Carey Dillon Woodworker. The namesake artisan's workshop and gallery is devoted to wood-turning and landscape photography, and Dillon's work is superb. He turns chunks of aged rimu, a native hardwood, into magnificent bowls that glow like amber; each one takes at least a year to create. Because he uses only dead wood, the craft is totally sustainable. His photographs are large and highly scenic and make great mementos to take home.
