$$-$$$$, Cafe, Kaikoura
Fodor's Review:
Homey and wholesome Hislops is a few minutes' walk north of town and well worth the trip. In the morning you'll find tasty eggs and bacon, plus freshly baked, genuinely stone-ground whole-grain bread served with marmalade or their own brand of honey. The imaginative lunch and dinner menus are all based on organic ingredients, and there are wheat- and gluten-free options as well. For instance, you might choose between a kumara (native sweet potato), bacon, and avocado salad or marinated tofu and falafel. On sunny days, score a table on the veranda.
