This winery pioneered grape growing in the Awatere Valley region. As a result a viticultural subregion of Marlborough was discovered, one that produces wines with distinctive, and much-sought-after characteristics from the glacially-enriched soils, arid summers, and cold nights. First planted in 1986, Vavasour's 220-acre estate vineyard is one of the marquee spots for grapes in the Awatere Valley. The awards list here is growing annually with a recent triple at the International
Wine Challenge in London. Their cellar door is now at 26 Rapaura Road.
