Fodor's Review

On the southern shore of Lake Brunner, a 40-minute drive southeast of Greymouth, this vintage bed-and-breakfast lodge is an enticing retreat at a price that is not as high as most of New Zealand's elite lodges. Rooms are large and well equipped, with the emphasis on comfort rather than opulence. The beds get rave reviews for their comfort. The best rooms are at the front of the villa, overlooking the lake. Fly-fishing is the main sport (lots of brown trout 'round here), but good spin fishing is also available at certain times of the year. You can also go walking or kayaking, or you can enjoy just relaxing in the lodge, by the fire in the lounge or in the library. The lodge is surrounded by native forest and because of its remote location, generates power with a hydro plant running off a spectacular waterfall behind the main building.
