YHA Wanaka, Purple Cow Review
Shoot pool with a view of the mountains and lake. This is the best-known and most well-liked backpackers (i.e. hostel) in town. The Purple Cow, not to be mistaken with the Cow, a pizza joint on Post Office Lane, is within walking distance of shops and stumbling distance from the bars. While the cost of a bed is relatively cheap, frills are extra: towels, duvets, and bicycles are for rent. And be sure you have an extra pocketful of "shrapnel" as the laundry, Internet, and barbecue are all coin-operated.
