The Hermitage Hotel Review

Famed for its stupendous mountain vistas, this rambling hotel has been substantially revamped over the past few years. The improved layout now gives most of the rooms, as well as the lobby, terrific views over Aoraki and Mt. Sefton. Some accommodations, such as the motel rooms and self-contained chalets, are separate from the main lodge, and the views aren't as spectacular, but the prices and space are good for families. Room rates include breakfast. The Hermitage Hotel houses two excellent restaurants. As the name suggests, the Panorama Restaurant ($$$-$$$$) takes in the scenery, too. Its menu leans toward both the Pacific Rim and Europe; you could try panfried monkfish or a char-grilled beef tenderloin. The Alpine Restaurant ($$$-$$$$) serves a huge buffet-style meal for lunch and dinner.
