Getting Here and Around

Highway 6 enters Queenstown from the West Coast; driving time for the 400-km (250-mi) journey from Franz Josef is eight hours. It takes approximately an hour and a half to drive between Queenstown and Wanaka; the drive between Queenstown and Te Anau generally lasts a little over two hours. Bus and airplane service are also available between Christchurch and Queenstown. The city is small and fun for seeing on foot. If you're out and about at night there are several taxi services available.
