This stately 1883 mansion, surrounded by acres of gardens, is an all-around treasure. Robyn Bickford and Manav Garewal, the genial and well-traveled hosts, have given their historic home a fascinating mix of styles, from the European antiques to modern Maori art to the Indian bedspreads. You can relax on the veranda (porches surround three sides of the house) or by the Italian marble fireplace. Robyn is a former diplomat accomplished in Asian and European cooking, and for meals she uses fresh fruits and vegetables that come in daily from the gardens. Afternoon tea and aperitifs are included in the rates; lunch and dinner are extra.
