To get the full story, stop by the Lakes District Museum, which has artifacts of the gold-rush days plus hands-on exhibits. (It also doubles as an information center and has a small bookstore and gallery attached.) You can even rent pans and get gold-panning tips to try your luck in the Arrow River.
