A local favorite, Missy's pulls in an after-ski crowd to its bar as well as to its dining room. (They've got a sophisticated cocktail list, as well as dozens of beers and wines.) In summer the balcony is a favored spot for dinner or just a glass of wine. If the Lake Wanaka view has you thinking of shellfish, lap up some Marlborough mussels flavored with lemongrass, lime, and chili jam. You can also try the beef sirloin or the escalope of salmon and choose from a list of yummy desserts.

Good food but bizarre booking experience

When attempting to make a reservation for this restaurant for 7pm on a quiet Friday night we were told that we couldn't book for 7pm. They suggested 6:30pm as if to imply the restaurant was very busy. In fact the person who took our call made quite a point of the unavailability of a 7pm booking. 6:30pm was inconvenient for us but we compromised at 6:45pm which still meant we had to rush things. When we arrived at the restaurant the place was virtually empty and there were only two names written on their reservations list. During our meal the restaurant was never more than a quarter full. We can only assume that the person who took our reservation was attempting to play some sort of stupid joke on us. Apart from this rudeness the food was great and the service was good.
