Port of Call Review

Philippa Fraser-Wilson and sixth-generation islander Ian Wilson opened this modern B&B overlooking Halfmoon Bay and the Foveaux Strait. You can wander the trails through their 20 acres of native bush, which border a lush wilderness teeming with birdlife leading to Acker's Point. Return to drinks by a cozy fire in the guest lounge. This friendly couple owns and operates Stewart Island Water Taxi & Eco-guiding, which leads guided and nonguided trips around the island. They also have two other fully equipped and totally enchanting properties: the Bach and Turner Cottage, where you can choose to "self-cater," or have Philippa spoil you with baskets of homemade breakfast goodies.
