Just opposite St. Joseph's Cathedral, this 1800s former bishop's residence is now a comfortable hostel with a few touches of Harry Potter, but most travelers will be attracted to the private studio apartment-style units with kitchenettes. Despite the name, the convivial hostel is not overtly themed, but fans may want to look for Hedwig in Room 9 and three-quarters. The home's original dining room has been transformed into a characterful, spacious five-bed dorm, but all other rooms are singles, double, and triples although most share clean, modern bathrooms and two equally smart kitchens. One double in the main building has en suite facilities. There's a shared, cozy dining area, reading room, TV/DVD lounge, laundry, as well as Wi-Fi throughout (for a fee). Newer, more upmarket options include The Stables (two self-contained studios) and the Coach House (two rooms with private bathrooms—only one en suite—and shared kitchen). The clientele is a diverse mix of guests from late-teens to octogenarians.
