Lodge at Kauri Cliffs Review
Those wishing to stand on the literal edge of the world can do no better than Kauri Cliffs, which sits on the northern edge of New Zealand, offering jaw dropping views of the Pacific and outlying islands. Although it's all you can do to tear your eyes away from lush rolling hills set against blue ocean and crashing white waves, Kauri has the full roster of activities. For golf fiends, there's a pristine 4,500 acre course. Sandcastle building is a breeze on the hotel's three private beaches, and even your sullen teen will smile with ATV rides and an infinity pool. If you can bear to venture inside, you'll be rewarded with downy beds, fireplaces, and, if you've booked a room with a balcony, cozy rocking chairs from which to take in the flaming setting sun.

Regal Cliffside Escape
Built on the ruggedly beautiful terrain of the northern edge of the country, the Kauri Cliffs is an off-the-beaten-path slice of heaven for hard-core golf enthusiasts. Perched on the edge of the dramatic seaside bluffs of the North Island, this Dave Harman-designed 18-hole course has panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Cape Brett, and the Cavalli Islands—15 of the greens are perched on what feels like the edge of the earth. Non-golfers can take advantage of a full slate of activities like tennis, chef-prepared picnics on the beach, wine tours, and hot-air balloon rides. The Lodge itself is the epitome of understated elegance and the twenty-two cottages each have private porches and elegantly appointed sitting rooms with fireplaces.
