Tairoa Lodge Review

Tairoa means "linger, stay longer," fitting for this relaxing B&B in a renovated kauri villa, built in 1875. Three spacious guest rooms look out over the woodland garden and swimming pool. The individually decorated, richly colored rooms have ornamental fireplaces with carved wooden mantels and en suites. Guests share an elegant dining room and a cozy sitting room with leather sofas, wood fire, and Sky TV. A full breakfast is included, and dinner can be arranged in advance. A separate two-bedroom cottage (NZ$220 double) can accommodate families; it has a full kitchen as well as a home-theater system and veranda overlooking a spacious lawn. To keep busy, you can peruse the latest magazines, play chess or pétanque (the French version of boccie), or take a dip in the pool.
