Out in the Styx Cafe and Guesthouse Review

As the name suggests, this place is in the country, a 25-minute drive from Cambridge, and the delightful rural environment includes a view of Maungatautari. In addition, some of the North Island's most pristine native forest is a two-minute drive away. Guest rooms are spacious, some with king beds and others with queens; three have tribal themes. Dinner and breakfast are included in the price. Listen to native birdsong while soaking in one of two hot tubs in the garden, catch a quiet moment in one of two small guest lounges (with tea and coffee facilities), or join the conviviality of the restaurant and bar, where hosts Mary and Lance Hodgson dish up wholesome country food and enthuse about Maungatautari's conservation story. Lance is a trustee of the Maungatautiri Ecological Island Trust and has been a kaka-feeding volunteer and Mountain by Night tour guide. Airport transfers from Hamilton Airport (40 minutes) can be arranged.
