North Island's West Coast Restaurants

Stellar Review

This relaxed restaurant specializes in giant gourmet pizzas with ominous names, like "Ren and Stinky" (lots of mozzarella) and "Foul Play" (yes, chicken), but it also serves a variety of generic New Zealand food, light meals, salads, and meaty mains. The space, which includes a bar and music venue, retains the brick-and-stone interior of an 1850s former hotel. There's a strong Kiwi vibe throughout, with stained-and-polished wool presses for bar stands and giant plasma TVs for engaging in that favorite Kiwi pastime: watching sports. A spacious veranda, free wireless Internet for diners, and stylish bathrooms are also notable. Happy hour, 4:30–6:30 on weeknights, is a bargain, and there's live music some nights after 10.
