Fodor's Review

Stylish and modern, this is New Plymouth's only waterfront lodging, and it's handily placed next to the Puke Ariki Museum and the information center. Each room has sea or city views. Configurations run from studios with showers (no tubs) to elite studios with individual whirlpool baths to Penthouse Suites, with separate bedroom, double whirlpool bath, shower, full laundry, and kitchen facilities. All rooms have super-king or queen beds. Salt ($$$), the excellent restaurant and bar, feels almost minimalist, all the better to appreciate the view of the beach, walkway, and 45-meter (148-foot) flexible statue Wind Wand, by Len Lye, across the road. Mornings bring a traditional Kiwi breakfast, while dinner ranges from Angus beef filet, slow roasted pork belly, and the catch of the day to a small-but-delectable offering of salads and lighter, vegetarian meals.
