Fodor's Expert Review WINGSPAN Birds of Prey Centre
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
A must-see for ornithology fans, WINGSPAN has 10 light and roomy aviaries where you can see native birds of prey. In Māori mythology, falcons, harriers, and moreporks (little owls) all acted as messengers to the gods. The aviaries, which are connected by an undercover walkway, echo with the cries of these fierce raptors, and they can be seen flying, feeding, and nesting. Open-air flying and obedience displays take place daily at 2. Some of the birds are brought in to recuperate from injury before being released back into the wild.
