Blue and Green Lakes
Blue and Green Lakes Review
You'll find these vibrant lakes on the road to Te Wairoa and Lake Tarawera. The Green Lake is off-limits except for its viewing area, but the Blue Lake is popular for picnics and swimming. The best place to view the lakes' rich color is from the isthmus between the two. Take Highway 30 east (Te Ngae Road) and turn right onto Tarawera Road at the signpost for the lakes and buried village. The road loops through forests and skirts the edge of the lakes.
