The County Hotel
12 Browning St., Napier, Hawke's Bay, 4110, New Zealand
Built in 1909 as the Hawke's Bay County Council headquarters, this is one of the few Napier buildings that survived the 1931 earthquake; wood paneling, chandeliers, and claw-foot bathtubs conjure up that more gracious era. At the Wine Street Restaurant you will find an array of dishes that spotlight local ingredients. Churchill's Champagne Bar is decorated with quotes from the great man's speeches, and a cellar room is used for evening wine tastings.
- you'll sleep in a room with a bit of history
- dine well without leaving the building
- wood paneling is not everyone's choice of decor
