Fodor's Review

At this tiny museum you can look into earlier ways of life in the town. The museum contains photographic displays of the gold-rush and logging industries, good re-creations of period rooms from the 1800s, and info on the original Māori inhabitants and early European settlers. A nice feature here are the grounds, the memorial garden, with period roses and other flora that settlers commonly planted, is a nice place to rest and reflect. Run by volunteers.
