Energetic owner Dave Fowell (hence the "egg" references) has created a community hub in his restaurant. More than great food - there are live music and jam sessions (on the website, even!), poetry readings, and film nights. Dave sings most nights and the guest artist lineup can be awfully impressive. In summer he holds a sculpture symposium where artists get together and create work in public. The menu reaches beyond most cafe standards, try duck three ways, or fresh kingfish on lemon rissotto with the famous local scallops. There's also a great range of classic breakfasts and fresh baking. The style's definitely eclectic; that's part of the Eggsentric vibe. To get here, drive just beyond Cook's Beach on Purangi Road or take the ferry from Whitianga to Flaxmill Bay. The café is about 2 km (1 mi) from the ferry landing.
